"An Eye for an I: Living Philosophy" by Robert Spillane deals with philosophy and philosophers. Presenting a complex thinking based on the view that "I" is more than just a pronoun, he delves on various personas and personal traits of his own personality. He also explores the relation of all these facets with each other, himself and the outer world. Spillane believes that there is a reason behind the existence and destiny of every human being which is interpreted by each one of us differently.

An Eye for An I CustomerReview

With a full tank of antagonism towards post-modernism, Professor Spillane sets off cruising through the boulevards of philosophy, passing the various neighbourhoods of Heroism, Rationalism, Cynicism, Stoicism, Religion-ism, Politic-ism, Mental-ism, Scepticism, Romanticism, Naturalism and Existentialism on the way.

What is he looking for?

Himself.

Where does he end up?

Back where he started it seems...with Himself, or perhaps his 'I' as he might put it (whichever and whatever that may be).

His chapter on Cynicism is one of the best.

His discussion of Thomas Szasz is challenging. Szasz is an iconoclastic psychiatrist who believes the mind is a fiction and therefore such a fiction cannot become 'ill', thus rendering mental illness as an oxymoron.

An interesting exploration of the Mind for all the 'I's out there...
